Transition to SBL Academy 

PE and Sports Kit


The academy has taken steps to ensure that our uniform remains affordable whilst ensuring that standards remain high.  With this in mind we have reduced the number of branded items required for our PE kit.

Monkhouse Schoolwear

Compulsory Items:

SBL Logo polo shirt : Unisex or women’s fit polo shirt. 

Optional Items:

SBL Rugby top (boys) or SBL 1/4 zip jumper (girls)

These items are available from Monkhouse Schoolwear and have an SBL logo on the item.  These items can be worn as a warm weather top all year round.

Any Outlet

Compulsory Items:

Navy blue plain PE shorts or plain navy tracksuit bottoms:  Navy tracksuit bottoms must be plain only with no logo's or stripes.  

Navy football socks or white sports socks:   Can be purchased from any sports shop.

Sports Trainers:   Leisure shoes and daps are not permitted.  Sports trainers should have good laces and grip.  These can be purchased from any sports shop.  To maintain the high performance of our 3G AstroTurf, it is recommended that students wear AstroTurf trainers with pimpled soles.  These items of footwear are also appropriate for wearing in our indoor spaces.

Optional Items

Navy blue sports jumper:  This item can be worn instead of the SBL Rugby Top (boys) or logo 1/4  zip jumper (girls).  Students benefit from warm outer wear during colder months.

Students are not permitted to wear any type of hoody or coat during PE lessons - including for outdoor lessons.

Additional Items / Information

Base layers - In cold weather students are permitted to wear a plain navy blue or white base layer underneath their polo top.  

Sports Leggings (girls) - KS3 and KS4 girls are permitted to wear plain navy sports leggings if they wish.  These must be of suitable material to maintain suitable coverage in all weather conditions.

Outdoor Footwear

Football on the astroturf – Students will need to wear trainers/Astro Trainers  or moulded boots only.   plastic / metal stud style boots are not permitted.  Shin pads are compulsory and must be worn.  

Football/Rugby on the school playing field – Students need to wear football boots that will allow them more grip on the grass.  Shin pads are compulsory and must be worn for football.  

Football/Hockey/Rugby – Shin pads are compulsory and must be worn for football and Hockey.  For Hockey & rugby gum shields are optional but strongly recommended.

Non participants

If students have an injury they will take on a leadership role within the lesson.  No student is exempt from taking part in learning.  In the case of an injury, students need to bring a note from a parent/carer explaining why they cannot participate practically and also bring and change into their PE kit.  

We understand that in some extreme situations students will not be able to change into PE kit e.g. broken leg.  The PE staff will use their professional discretion to identify the rare occasions that it is not appropriate for a student to be asked to change into PE kit. 

Jewellery  hair & nails

In accordance with BAALPE Health and Safety guidance, no student is permitted to wear jewellery when participating in PE and Sport.  Jewellery should not be taped.  Long hair must be tied back and nails should not be visible beyond fingertips.
