At SBL Academy we encourage all our students to get involved in activities beyond the classroom. These are called 'Enrichment Activities'.

Students with Nevermoor author Jessica Townsend on her second visit to SBL (October 2018)
>> Enrichment Activities
I am delighted to welcome you to the SBL Academy library and I am looking forward to sharing my love of reading with you, encouraging you to read, and introducing you to great books that I know you will love.
Year 7 students will have fortnightly visits to the Library, which will give you the opportunity to discover books to read for pleasure. Exploring books, and developing a reading habit can help us improve our vocabulary, spelling, maths and even our health!
We regularly hold reading events, such as the one pictured to the left, which shows SBL students with the author Jessica Townsend.
In September all students in Year 7 will be invited to take part in Bookbuzz. This is a reading programme which allows you to choose and keep your very own book from a list of 17 specially selected titles. We will share the book choices with you using pieces of film and activities. Your chosen book will be arrive just before Christmas. There is no charge for this programme. We hope that this activity will inspire you to keep reading and discovering new books. For more information visit the Bookbuzz website by clicking here.
Welcome to PE at SBL Academy! We are very much looking forward to meeting all of you when you arrive. We have an exciting curriculum on offer and have amazing facilities to be able to offer sports such as badminton, rugby, netball, table-tennis, and athletics. We do compete against other schools in some of these sports, although it's fine if you want to come along just for your own enjoyment too. Alongside these activities we have a swimming team and a dance / cheer team, both of which take part in festivals and competitions.
The PE Department is always looking to expand our provision and would love to hear about the sports you play out of school. Please do come and visit us in the Sports Centre at the start of the year.
Welcome to Music & Performing Arts. All students in Year 7 have lessons in music and performing arts and these lessons take place in fantastic specialist teaching spaces. In music you get to learn about different styles of music and music through the ages, as well as developing your skills on the keyboard and other instruments; you also get to compose your own music. Performing Arts gives you the opportunity to develop your acting skills but also to get an idea of what goes on behind the scenes in sound, set design and lighting for example.
We hold Winter and Summer concerts each year and regularly hold productions, last Summer students performed Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. If performing is not for you then how about training to be a theatre technician with our own technician, Mr Berry?
We have visiting teachers for piano, drums, violin and guitar (acoustic and electric), keyboard and jazz piano. If you're instrument is not mentioned, come and talk to us. More information on applying for lessons will be available at the start of September.
